Dynamic Crop Maps For Your Crop Plan

One of the biggest challenges in crop plan spreadsheets is how to create a clear crop map that is easy to consult but also automatically updates when things change.

Here is my latest version – a combo made up of the formulas JOIN(), CHAR(10), and FILTER(). This combo displays your crop plan for 1 bed in your field.

I added a 🌱 to indicate what has already been planted and a πŸ“… to indicate what is planned to be planted.

As you record in your Crop Plan what you’ve planted in the field, this Crop Map also updates.

I’ve also put together a Crop Map that shows each bed by week. That way you can see what’s happening in time.

A Crop Map for a specific field block.

You can change the block number in the yellow cell and the formulas will display the bed contents for that block

The formula combo that displays each bed. It links to a Crop Plan spreadsheet where you do all the planning for the season.

A Crop Map for the same blocks but there they are displayed in a calendar format.

This is also linked to the Crop Plan spreadsheet. It also updates automatically when you change your Crop Plan spreadsheet

In this particular example it looks like there may be a problem in Bed 4 around week 28 when my Crop Plan has me flipping from Carrots to Arugula + Tatsoi. It might be worth tweaking the crop plan to see if I can put those crops somewhere else that week. And if I do that, these Crop Maps will automatically update to reflect my new Crop Plan.

These spreadsheets are all part of the Crop Plan framework in the Farm Spreadsheets For All Seasons course.

Coming back near the end of October!!!
